James O'Doherty and Company was established in 1915 by Mr. James O'Doherty. It was primarily concerned with rent collection and property management. In 1971 Mr. John Doherty (who is still in practice to this day) bought the company. Over the next few years Mr. Doherty established the business as it is today i.e. Valuers, surveyors, property consultants and commercial sales.

Mr. John Doherty has over 40 years experience in the surveying and valuation profession and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and National Association of Estate Agents (N.A.E.A.). He is Past Chairman of the Irish Auctioneers and Valuers Institute (I.A.V.I.) Northern Region and Past President of Londonderry Rotary Club, who recently honoured him with the Paul Harris Fellowship. In addition he has a B.Comm. Degree from University College Dublin.

In 1994 Mr. John Doherty's son Eoin Doherty joined the Company and has been increasingly involved with the larger commercial valuations. Mr. Eoin Doherty has an Honours Degree in Estate Management from University of Ulster and is also a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He is also Past President of Londonderry Junior Chamber of Commerce.

The Company is currently run as a partnership between Mr. John Doherty & Mr. Eoin Doherty. Combined, James O'Doherty & Company has almost 60 years knowledge in surveying and valuing residential and commercial property in the North West. The Company mainly covers BT45 to BT57, BT78 to BT82 as well as Co. Donegal in the Republic of Ireland, however we have been known to carry out further a field valuations in various other parts of Northern Ireland and in the Republic of Ireland.
